synopsis

Based on the novel by the same name of Mario Vargas LLosa, the film tells how after being away from Santo Domingo for 35 years, Urania Cabral heads back to confront her 80-year-old father, Agustín, about being the right-hand man of the tyrannical dictator Rafael Trujillo. Her memories haunt her, prompted by the conspiracy and assassination of the man who abused her and marked her life forever. The story is narrated in 3 parts: her efforts to exorcize the demons of the past; the last months of the life of the dictator under international pressure; and the conspiracy of a group of Dominicans to kill “The Goat”.
