Juan Pérez, the poorest of the poor, reaches fame in what seemed to be a suicide attempt to protest the government and his social condition. The Minister of the Economy, plagued by a scandal in which he is blamed for Pérez's decision, decides to reward him by changing his life: he gives him a little house, a car and a job. But when Pérez's close friends find out about his reversal of fortune, they decide to imitate him, faking suicide attempts on different buildings in Mexico City. The Minister of the Economy, terrified, decides to declare poverty a crime and, once and for all, finish off all the poor people in the country. Pérez ends up behind bars. Three years later, he’s released and goes back to his previous social condition, but with the mindset that he’d rather be rich for a day than poor forever.
